SHELL-SHOCKED AFTER ANOTHER HEAVY DEFEAT 25th August 2003 :
Two games, two defeats, nine goals conceded and one scored. Not exactly the start to the Premiership I and all the other Wolves fans out there were looking for. If I was disappointed at the Blackburn result, I find myself a little bit shell-shocked after another heavy defeat against Charlton on Saturday.
Before Saturday's game, I was really excited about the prospect of Molineux's first top flight game for 20 years and was really looking forward to the occasion. I soon had the stuffing knocked out of me.
We are quickly learning in the Premiership that you can't afford to give teams a one-goal start, so you haven't got much chance when you find yourself four down in a little over half-an-hour.
I watched the game in the Purple Loans executive box with my old pal Andy Thompson and we were being recorded for a feature by Sky television.
We were both desperate to have something to cheer about in front of the cameras but I am sure I speak for all Wolves fans when I say what a nightmare it was.
It wasn't so much the scoreline, although that was bad enough, it was the fact we made such little impact against a team who I believe will be in the "relegation mini-league".
I am convinced we are not as bad as the first two results suggest, and I am hoping it is a case of early Premiership nerves and the new players settling into the squad.
But we can't carry on for too long like this and Dave Jones will be aware that he needs to turn things round quickly.
After a result like the first two, the last thing you fancy is a trip to Manchester United but that is what faces us on Wednesday.
I shall be at Old Trafford to watch the game against Manchester United and I am hoping the occasion will bring the best out of the lads.
I think the game will go one of two ways - either the home side will overpower us and we will get beat by six or seven, or we will sneak it 1-0.
I will be having a bet on both of those and I don't think I need to say which one I am praying will come true.
