Did somebody forget to tell the Wolves players that kick-off time had been moved forward from 3pm to 12.30pm?

All Wolves fans arrived at Molineux hoping for the victory that would drag us out of the bottom three, but left wandering whether the final nail had been hammered into our relegation coffin.

It is difficult to explain the performance which unfolded in front of our eyes.

Okay, Villa are in the midst of a decent run and David O'Leary has done a good job there since taking over.

But our disjointed efforts made them look like world-beaters.

From first minute to last we were a yard off the pace and the "in your face" style which has become a trademark of our performances in recent weeks was missing for some reason.

You can't afford to give any side in the Premiership a one goal lead, let alone three, and that is exactly what happened.

The second and third goals were both desperately poor ones to concede and you could see the confidence deflate from the players in that opening 20 minutes.

If we needed confirmation it wasn't going to be our day, it came with Vio Ganea's penalty miss just before half-time.

From that point on, it was a matter of how many Villa would score and I was relieved to see Juan Pablo Angel come off because he proved what a class act he is and was in danger of inflicting further damage.

But that's enough of the doom and gloom. However disappointing yesterday was, all is not lost.

One poor performance does not automatically condemn us to relegation and we are still only two points off the safety line.

Dave Jones will face a difficult task to lift his players this week but it has to be done.

We have 10 games to go preserve our Premiership future and nobody should be throwing in the towel.
